Dream a Sound Future

Dream a Sound Future is a dream and design competition for the vision of a sustainable future and the action steps in 2020, 2050 and 2070 needed to get there.

This is not a standard competition format. Entrants are encouraged to think outside the box and submit ideas ranging from paintings and performance art to architectural models and artificial intelligence. Dreams from past competitions are kept in the Library of Dreams.

Dream a Sound Future’s mission is to create the vision of a truly sustainable future for the Puget Sound area. The program is a call to action for all visionaries to get engaged, to be creative and to share their innovative ideas and dreams of the future.

How to Get Involved

Compete in our annual competition. Based on Sustainable Seattle’s indicators for sustainability, you can present your ideas on how you see the region in the year 2100, with the steps to get there. Think of the year 2100. Imagine thriving economy, culturally diverse society, carbon emissions free highways, healthy oceans and lush forests. How do we arrive at such future? What is our best-case scenario?

Our next annual competition will be held in October 2011. You will find all information about the event registration, deadlines, etc. on our website.

Check out our Library of Dreams and get inspired. In 2010, our annual event was held at Seattle Center on 10/10/10. We also held a challenge for school age visionaries with the final event at Delridge Days.

You can’t wait to share your vision?  You can submit an application, read the 2011 official rules and prizes by clicking here.  You can also submit an application to join the Dream a Sound Future steering committee or volunteer by emailing us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. A Dream a Sound Future Story:

One of our contestants for the 2010 Dream a Sound Future 2010 competition was Karin deWeille. Karen’s dream is that we all quickly adapt our behavior and so more quickly create a sustainable future. Step one in Karen’s dream is for all of us to give up using recyclable cups by dedicating ourselves to using only reusable cups for three weeks – there by forming the habit and collectively seeing how easy it is to create collective positive change.

Dream in 2010 was a great success. It was the first year for Dream and we had over double the contestants we expected and received support from.
