Keith Tucker Wins Jefferson Award!
Hip Hop Green Dinners Bring Healthy Food & Healthy Planet Events to Youth Across the Nation
One of the things Sustainable Seattle quietly does behind the scenes is sponsor “startup” nonprofits by taking on the role of finance department for them until they are able to grow and obtain their own nonprofit 501(c)3 designation.
We have some great success stories because of the wonderful ideas and committed individuals who come our way. We will be sharing some recent examples in the coming months.
The first I want to share is the amazing Keith Tucker and his Hip Hop Green Dinners that, after six years of hard work and development, are now rolling out across the nation. These are free dinners, hosted by local organizations and sponsors, that bring vegan meals to youth and their families, teaching them not only about healthy food options, but about how their food choices affect the planet.
You will be hearing a lot more about Keith starting this week. King 5 is heading to his house on Monday for an interview because Keith just won one of the five Washington State Jefferson Awards!
The Jefferson Awards is a national program that brings much deserved attention to “unsung heroes,” individuals who contribute to society in positive service above and beyond what anyone would imagine. Last Monday Keith and the other four winners were honored at an event hosted by Seattle CityClub at MOHAI. What an amazing group of individuals!
There were 70 nominations from across the state this year for the five Washington State Jefferson Awards. We are honored to be associated with an outstanding and committed guy like Keith!
Keith just returned from Denver where the dinner was “sold out.” Later this week we are heading down to Oakland to join him for the 2nd annual dinner there. Later comes Philadelphia, Chicago, Atlanta, NYC and more. Kids love these events, learn an immense amount, and many completely change the way they eat afterward.
