Volunteering at Sustainable Seattle is a great way to get involved in your community, gain some experience in sustainability and work with wonderful people on challenging, fun and rewarding programs and projects. Sustainable Seattle’s volunteers are tomorrow leaders in sustainability. We always have the need for volunteers to work on our programs and projects.

Current volunteer opportunities -

1. Journalism and Communications: The intern picks one of this year's Top 3 nominees, or another sustainability topic of interest, interviews the relevant parties in person, and then writes up an article about it for our blog. This is shared in our "Sustainable Happenings" newsletter and on Twitter and Facebook. There is generally a team of interns working on this and they meet about once a week.

2. Community Outreach: We have some rain garden related projects going on in S. Seattle (White Center, Georgetown and soon Rainier Beach) that need some community work like posting fliers for events or organizing workshops. This type of work is dependent on the needs of our grant funded projects, so is unpredictable.

3. Sustainability Walk: Each year we put together an interesting walking tour of sustainable sites and projects in one of our Seattle neighborhoods. The planning begins in the spring and the walk takes place in the summer. Check out our past walks:

  • Go Beacon! Green Hood, Clean Water - In partnership with Duwamish River Clean-up Coalition, Sustainable Seattle is putting on a stormwater action walk!  Join us on June 28 to see what Beacon Hill is up and how you can take action to protect our waterways and our river.  Plus the walk will end right as the Beacon Rocks! Festival kicks off - so stick around for music, food and fun! View photos on Flickr.

Capital Hill Sustainability Walk - In August 2013, Sustainable Seattle led a walk to highlight projects and green technology making "The Hill" a resilient neighborhood.  A map of the sites is still available. View photos on Flickr.
