June Green Drinks | Equity Means…

June 9 @ 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM

June 9

5:30 PM - 7:00 PM

Event Category:

This Green Drinks discussion will be on the intersection of racism and the environment. Generally speaking, areas in South Seattle with higher black and Hispanic populations, appear to have greater exposure to environmental dangers than compared to majority-white neighborhoods in North Seattle. This racial segregation in Seattle is still a consequence of generations of oppression and historical redlining of BIPOC Seattleites. Therefore, the solutions for climate action and environmental equity is intricately embedded with racial equity, public health, access to education, housing and more. We’ll reference the work of black-led environmental groups in our region, workshop ways to have these difficult conversations as allies, and address ‘what we can do’.

Even though our usual Green Drinks in-person events are currently on pause, we’ve shifted to virtual meet-ups for the duration of our “shelter in place” experience. These “S2 On Air” digital convenings are opportunities to connect with each other and discuss some of the topics at the forefront of our minds, from the comfort and safety of our own homes.

Between digital convenings, you can stay engaged in these conversations through our social media channels, email newsletters, and other live events.
