<div>Brian Allen is the Founder and Principal of the Appropriate Technology Group, a Seattle-based consultancy focused on sustainable approaches to using technology for economic development and environmental protection. He has lived and worked across the Americas and Europe for a wide range of businesses and non-profits over the last 30 years. In Washington State, he has founded or served on the boards of Sustainable West Seattle. the Green Party of Washington State, Washington Alpine Club, Seattle Astronomical Society, The Backbone Campaign, The Washington Alliance of Technology Workers, Seattle Independent Media Center, Northwest Ecobuilding Guild, Green Party of Seattle, and the Puget Sound Beekeepers Association, among others. He earned a BA in Political Science &amp; International Relations from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the Certificat d’Études Politiques from the Institute d’Études Politiques in Aix-en-Provence, France, and an MA in Economics &amp; Latin American Studies from The Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International

We've teamed up to support this event whose proceeds benefit Green Seattle Partnership to help restore our urban parks and forests. We're looking for volunteers to join us at Bell Harbor Pierr 66 on Saturday, April 20. Volunteers will receive a free T-Shirt! Shifts begin at 7am and end at 1pm. </span></p>

            <title>Greening Highland Park Improvement Club</title>

            <description><![CDATA[<p>Sustainable Seattle is excited to be a part of the greening project at <a href="http://www.hpic1919.org">Highland Park Improvement Club</a>! &nbsp;This is part of Sustainable Seattle's broader <a href="http://sustainableseattle.org/programs/neighborhoodprograms">Green Blocks Blue Sound</a> program. &nbsp;With funding support from a King County Lower Duwamish Air and Water Quality Improvement Grants, &nbsp;Sustainable Seattle is working with HPIC and the broader community to design and install rain gardens, cisterns and other forms of green infrastructure on the club's property. &nbsp;These features will beautify the property and help prevent polluted runoff from entering our local waterways!</p>
<p><strong>The Greening team chose a contractor! &nbsp;</strong>Rain Dog Designs will be designing and installing the rain garden and cistern on the Highland Park property. &nbsp;On March 27, the team will present preliminary designs during the Highland Park Action Committee meeting. &nbsp;Following the presentation, we will post the design here. &nbsp;</p>
<p>The project will also serve as a demonstration site and educational opportunity for the surrounding neighbors. &nbsp;The community is encouraged to take an active part in this project and learn about they can have an impact at home!
