Sustainable Seattle could not exist today without the help of volunteers. Volunteers have always been the heart of this organization and continue to help Sustainable Seattle accomplish its mission. Puget Sound region residents may lend volunteer support in a number of ways.

B-Sustainable Launch 

B-Sustainable is a web-based information network powered by a unique sustainability indicators framework.  In collaboration with Sustainable Seattle, volunteers with professional skills are needed from diverse backgrounds for three specific teams:

Content Development Team:

(1) Researching and developing new indicators: Sample new indicators include "Access to healthy food by neighborhood", "Dollar value of ecosystem services" and "Goods and services import ratio".

(2) Content writing in a creative non-fiction style: Creating compelling stories that give that data “life.”

(3) Outreach to community organizations: contacting community organizations to engage them in developing system content around sustainability actions.

Marketing and Outreach:

(1)   Designing and creating compelling communication materials for engaging users in B-Sustainable from all sectors of life: community members, business owners, government leaders, students…

(2)   Media and community outreach: getting the message OUT!

(3)   Celebration extravaganza: create the party that will celebrate ALL of our efforts.

Fundraising and Sponsorship:

(1)   Helping to clarify and enhance B-Sustainable’s value propositions: identify the optimum use of sponsorship possibilities, define the value propositions, and ensure appropriateness in relationship to the market and audience.

(2)   Identify target sponsors: build strategy and tactics for bringing in the kind of support that fits the B-Sustainable purpose and values.

(3)   Pound the pavement: engage with selectively chosen business, government, and community leaders, garnering financial support for the further development and long-term success of this unique approach to connecting information with action.

A full orientation to B-Sustainable will be provided.  Availability to meet at our downtown Sustainable Seattle office every other week is a necessary aspect of this volunteer commitment (time of day depending on the needs of the team); your individual time commitment will depend on the team’s needs and your availability.

B-Sustainable is an exciting development and we look forward to your imagination and ideas becoming part of this ground-breaking system!

Sustainability Education Volunteers: We are currently looking for volunteers to help us implement our Choose to Change educational workshop. This is a one or two day workshop given in middle- and high schools around the Greater Seattle Area. Volunteers will be trained by Sustainable Seattle staff to assist with a series of activities and exercises in the classroom that will teach students about the connection between smart consumption, waste reduction and sustainability. Workshops will be scheduled for winter and spring quarter 2008. We are asking volunteers to commit to at least two full day workshops and a one-hour training session. This is a perfect opportunity for individuals interested in sustainability issues and working with middle and high school students!
