Lake City Street-Level Survey, October 14, 2006

The second street level survey in Lake City was conducted on October 14th, 2006. The Lake City street-level survey focused primarily on the Lake City commercial district streets: NE 130th St from 28h Ave NE to 33rd Ave NE, Lake City Way NE from NE 123rd St to NE 130th St, 30th Ave NE from NE 127th St to NE 123rd St and NE 123rd St from Lake City Way to 35th Ave NE.

The maps above show the four surveys planned: A1 & A2 represent the positive "asset" condition routes and D1 & D2 represent the "deficit" condition routes. Survey volunteers included residents of the Lake City neighborhood with help from Sustainable Seattle volunteers. Findings of the October 14th, 2006 street-level survey:

Community members collected deficits & concerns (what they didn't like and what they thought were problems) along the areas of the main business district of the Lake City neighborhood.

Deficit Findings:

Table 1 above lists the most frequently collected negative conditions (deficits) organized by feature.  46 conditions were found in the sidewalk category.  A majority of the sidewalk conditions indicated missing sidewalks and uneven pavement on the sidewalk.  There were 18 incidents collected on buildings. 18 planting strip conditions were of concern due to the presence of dumping, weeds and invasive plants.  There were also 17 incidents collected in parking lots, the primary concerns being dumping, graffiti and litter.  In total, there were 228 deficits or concerns collected by community members in the Lake City neighborhood on October 14th, 2006.  For a complete list of all the deficits collected during this survey, click here.
