The map above shows the eight individual routes the youth and elders surveyed in Chinatown-International District. Each route has a corresponding asset and deficit route making a total of 16 routes covered by the survey volunteers. Survey volunteers included youth and elder residents of the International District neighborhood. For map details, click on the specific route map number below. For data findings, keep reading!

Findings of the 2006 street-level survey collected over several days in February and March of 2006:
Community members collected both assets (what they liked) and deficits & concerns (what they didn't like and what they thought were problems) along the areas of the main business district of the International District neighborhood.

Table 2 above lists the most frequently collected negative conditions (deficits) organized by feature. 47 sidewalk conditions were found. A majority of the sidewalk conditions indicated uneven pavement and litter on the sidewalk. There were 16 incidents of the roots heaving and causing uneven pavers making Tree Pits the second most frequently collected feature. Buildings were the third most collected feature, there were 14 incidents of graffiti and abandoned buildings. In total, there were 144 deficits or concerns collected by community members in the International District neighborhood during February and March of 2006.
