The survey routes were in the main business district, along Broadway East from East Pine Street to East Roy Street, and along Harvard Ave from East Pine Street to East Denny Way. Also included in the survey was Cal Anderson Concourse, cutting through Cal Anderson Park from 11th Avenue to Broadway. These routes were chosen by members of the now dissolved Capitol Hill Chamber of Commerce.
Findings of the May 22, 2004 street-level survey:
Capitol Hill community members collected 313 incidents. Similar to Greenwood-Phinney Ridge, the most common problem in Capitol Hill was trip hazards along sidewalks.

Table 1: Deficit Findings

Table 1 above lists the most frequently collected negative conditions (deficits) organized by feature. As mentioned above the most common problem was trip hazards along sidewalks. Another persisting problem was found along the planting strips. Surveyors found that there was a need for more “plantings” with 12 incidents of “asphalt/concrete should be removed”. Finally, another frequent feature with problems was “building” with etching and graffiti being common problems. For a complete list of all the deficits collected in the survey, click here.
