UW GIS Students Business District Maps

Document Actions
Students enrolled in a Geography 463 at the University of Washington created business district maps for two of our partner neighborhoods: Greenwood-Phinney Ridge and Uptown. The course utlizes ArcGIS to produce a series of maps which spatially locate the businesses the students collected data from onto the maps. The general product goal for this project was to create a series of maps for a selected number of neighborhoods which could be used as indicators of business district health and/or sustainability. The students collected data and organized it in a way that would allow a display of information onto a map. The data that was to be collected included: hours of operation, business type (local, chain, etc.), and business mix (retail, restaurants, personal services, etc.).

Findings

The findings can be found below. Due to the length of the business district in Greenwood-Phinney Ridge, each map was separated into North and South.  North refers to Greenwood Avenue N from N. 75th St. to N. 90th St. , and south refers to Phinney Avenue N. and N. 59th St. to Greenwood Avenue N. and N. 75th St. Click on the map description to download the map (PDF Format).
