Biography

Mark Aalfs has been a trustee of Sustainable Seattle since its founding in 1991. While with Sustainable Seattle, Mr. Aalfs has contributed to the “Indicators of Sustainable Community” reports published in 1993, 1995, and 1998.  Mr. Aalfs works at Tacoma Power, a public utility, where he manages the green power program, facilitates sustainable commercial buildings, and provides energy conservation and renewable energy information to the public.  In the 1990s he served on the Board of Directors for Solar Cookers International, a non-profit organization providing technical expertise and funding for low-cost solar cooker projects in developing countries. Mr. Aalfs is an advocate for energy efficiency, renewable energy, and appropriate technology in the U.S. and abroad. He received a BA in environmental studies and photography from Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio in 1975.  He completed graduate work at the University of Washington, receiving an MS from the School of Engineering, Social Management of Technology Program in 1982.
