Langdon Marsh
Biography
Langdon Marsh is
currently a Fellow with the National Policy Consensus
Center at Portland State
University , where he
works with state governments and others on collaborative problem solving for
various regional and local issues like watersheds and sustainability. He also is a consultant for Climate Neutral
Network. In 2001, he worked for Oregon
Governor John Kitzhaber identifying and assisting projects which demonstrate
sustainability, using broad partnerships with business, nonprofits and
government. Between 1995 and 2000, he
was Director of the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality. Mr. Marsh has been extensively involved with
natural resource and environmental management issues since 1973. Until 1995, he
served as commissioner of the New York State Department of Environmental
Conservation, charged with protecting and managing New York ’s environment and natural
resources. He also held a variety of positions with that agency beginning in
1973, including General Counsel and Executive Deputy Commissioner. From 1979-83 he was Director of the Governmental Law
Center , Albany Law School of Union
University, a research and educational institute that concentrates on issues
affecting state and local government in New
York . Mr. Marsh’s
public service background dates back to 1966, when he spent two years as a
Peace Corps volunteer in Ethiopia
after earning a law degree from Harvard
Law School . He also holds a B.A. from Harvard College
in history and literature.
